The Beatrix Potter Gallery
Tel:- 015394 36355
A small museum and gallery devoted to the life and work of Beatrix Potter.
Housed in what used to be the solicitor's office in the centre of Hawkshead.
Home to a collection of original drawings and watercolours by Beatrix Potter, as well as artefacts and documents relating to her life as a well known local sheep farmer, conservationist and wife of the local solicitor.
Although it is an old building, with many features that are preserved, the National Trust have tried to make the visitor experience modern by introducing touch screen technology and audio feeds, whilst efforts have also been made to make the attraction more child friendly, introducing activity sheets and quiet corners.
The Beatrix Potter Gallery is not large. Time taken to go round will vary according to your level of interest, but allow 30 minutes to an hour to get the best out of it.
Other Beatrix Potter Places to visit
Hill Top, at Near Sawrey is close to Hawkshead, and also worth a visit.
Beatrix Potter was an accomplished artist of flora and fauna and the The Armitt Museum and Library in Ambleside has a very good display of her paintings.
Children will enjoy the World of Beatrix Potter attraction in Bowness.
